Bernanke Tells Lawmakers Economic Recovery "Frustratingly Slow"

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke testified Thursday before the House Budget Committee on the economic outlook for 2012. 

During the hearing Chairman Bernanke told the House panel that the economic recovery is "frustratingly slow." He added that the Central Bank is working to protect U.S. from the European crisis.

On Wednesday, the committee heard from the head of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which forecast unemployment around 8.9% and slow economic growth through the rest of the year.

The Fed will keep interest rates at record lows until about 2014. In remarks to reporters after a round of policy meetings Wednesday, Mr. Bernanke also warned that the U.S. faces a fiscal cliff unless Congress acts ahead of tax hikes and spending cuts scheduled at the start of 2013.
